With the newer Mercedes taking the daily driving duties he could work on upgrading the older model. The first modification was swapping the 3.8 L V8 to a 5.6 L V8. W201. This 1984 Mercedes 190E (W201) was built by Rodney Nichols in Tennessee. The German sedan no longer sports the factory inline-four and now has an all-aluminum 5.3 L L33 V8 from a 2009 Chevy truck and 70 mm turbocharger. The V8 makes 505 horsepower on 18 psi of boost and 93 octane. So far the best quarter-mile is 12.5 seconds.

Plenty of people have done this swap already. It requires swapping out the 2.47 input flange to the 2.88 sized unit. Acceleration is slower but people have reported it is not bad and the shift points are extended. So it stays in each gear a little longer.
