The later series II supercharged with a rod knock is kind of surprising, but could've been due to the lower gasket. (I don't think the Buick-derived cast rods was a strong suit either, cast rods higher rod/bearing failure rates). That some bad luck.

Mar 19, 2019. #10. Apparently some are not familiar with the F-body version of the 3800. Intake manifold gaskets still fail, but not as common. The F-body 3800 has an aluminum intake manifold, (no composite upper) therefore disregard anything you hear about the dorman or ATP greyworks manifold, and stove pipes.I'm doing a LIM and UIM replacement now (famed GM gaskets). my gasket stuff , for s/c came w a small tube of black permatex. no gaskets, rtv only. go around whole nose piece tightening little by little.remember, its not lugnuts your tightening. also, do not apply any degreaser/solvent to the rotors. they are coated and removing this coating is said to be bad.(loose sealing capability)(less efficient).
What I have is a P0507 (RPM too high...intake leak) and have ton of oil in the upper intake manifold. So much oil that it's causes car to blow blue smoke for a minute or two when first start it up.
