Your best bet is to get schematics and craft your own gear. Pick up the tier 2 schematics from Val Royeaux if you haven't already. That should be sufficient for the pre-Skyhold battle. Actually forgot about Schematics! The ones I found so far were pretty meh, and that's doing 90% of all the quests in explorable areas.

i found that the armours look awsome on the companions, yet on the inquisitor they are average at best, and at some points they look like shit. They're not flashy, but I still like them. Armor and weapons both. They seem a lot more practical than crazy ridiculous armor. The skull cup is probably the worst idea ever.
