I doubt it is the Dagger – the pistol worked fine with the mag release that came stock on it.

This is a common issue. I picked up an extended release from AIM Surplus when I bought my new trigger for the same gun. That solved my issue with the mag release. It was the AIM Surplus-brand part, costing $5 and used the same spring and everything. I measured the mag release spring with a micrometer and it was .0505. Took it apart, checked everything, put it back together. Same issue. 100 mag inserts, 50+ catches. Put stock PSA mag release back in, no issues. 100 mag inserts, zero (0) catches. Either PSA design is an issue, or Brownells sent me a cheap Chinese knock-off. Why someone would knock off a $5 part, I have no idea.
