The firing pin was striking the same spot consistently, but it seemed to be not striking close enough to the rim. I tried reloading the cartridges, but they still would not fire.

I can't make mine misfire by pointing them down. Sounds like the one that misfires pointed down needs a firing pin with that many rounds fired in it.
