Like everyone says, magus is mostly melee damage with self buffs, those spell pen and ele focus feats are going to waste. Use self buffs, get 4 elements on your weapon (three with arcana), and grab Elemental Barrage. That's the basic way magus works right now. Str builds is more damage, while Dex builds can go into high AC tanks easier.

Sword Saints don't need to use a sword. The weapon you pick will influence how the character plays: If you want to use a reach weapon like a glaive, you'll want feats like Cleaving Finish. If you're using a 2h weapon without reach like a greataxe, the Vital Strike feats are really good.
