If you just play MP online then a NAT type will make no difference. NAT is mostly used for player to player connection which BO3 MP is on servers. My NAT Type turned to Moderate (which is compatible with Open) and I could then join my friends lobby. TL;DR: If you have a Strict NAT type, you can only join others with Strict NAT Type. If your NAT type is Open or Moderate, you can join others with Open or Moderate NAT type. Strict + Open/Moderate does NOT work.

Neither one is lying to you all ports needed for Xbox Live are OPEN. That doesn't necessarily mean every game you play uses the exact same ports. Black ops 3 requires a additional port and its not open giving you strict.
